Welcome to The Fraudian Slip, the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast, where we talk about all things identity compromise, crime and fraud that impact people and businesses. Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, SoundCloud, Audible and Amazon now. This month’s episode focuses on the role of biometrics in devaluing stolen data. It takes us to the recent policy forum in Washington, D.C., hosted by the ITRC, the Better Identity Coalition and the FIDO Alliance. The latter two groups are dedicated to improving identity protection and verification.

In this session, a group of identity experts discuss why we need to move more aggressively to using biometric tools and digital credentials to help reduce the value of stolen identity data. The panel discusses both the benefits and challenges of doing so. Jay Meier of FaceTec (a biometric solution company) moderated the panel and was joined by biometric experts Dr. Stephanie Schuckers and Arun Vemury, John Breyault of the National Consumers League, and the ITRC’s COO James Lee.
