Welcome to the Fraudian Slip, the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast, where we talk about all things identity compromise, crime and fraud that impact people and businesses. Listen, like and subscribe on Apple, Google, Spotify, SoundCloud, Audible and Amazon now. We’ve once again come to the time of the year when otherwise normal businesspeople turn into fortune tellers who try to prognosticate what will happen next year. It is time for the ITRC’s predictions for 2025.

We will put new copper tops in our crystal ball, stare at tea leaves, toss around some rune stones, shake our Magic 8 Ball and predict what will happen next year. Joining us in predicting the future is Blair Cohen, Founder & Chief Evangelist at identity verification company AuthenticID, and a member of the ITRC Board of Directors, along with the ITRC’s own CEO, Eva Velasquez.

We Discussed the Following:

  • What happened in 2024 and whether or not the ITRC’s predictions came true.
  • Some of the top ITRC predictions for 2025.

ITRC Predictions for 2025

  1. Reduced victim support and less law enforcement focus will translate into increased identity crimes
  2. Criminal fines and asset forfeitures earmarked to help identity crime victims will drop, too.
  3. The cybercrime job market will boom.
  4. It’s back to the future for federal regulations, and the future is now for state regulators.
  5. Self-regulation will make a comeback.
