Welcome to The Fraudian Slip, the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast, where we talk about all things identity compromise, crime and fraud that impact people and businesses. Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, SoundCloud, Audible and Amazon now.

Normally, each month we have a conversation with an expert in the field of identity and data protection, cybersecurity or privacy. This month, we feature a presentation from a government identity fraud conference hosted by the ITRC and supported by LexisNexis Risk Solutions

The theme of the conference was Identivation – a combination of identity and innovation – a reflection of how we create, manage, and verify identities that requires constant innovation to protect our identities from criminals and other threat actors.

Legacy systems continue to challenge agencies seeking to securely digitalize operations without incurring significant risk. This creates an environment ripe for identity fraud, waste and abuse.

Agencies at all levels of government are rushing to modernize their approach to accessing, authenticating and protecting constituents’ identities without sacrificing services. At the 2023 Government “Identivation” Summit, government executives and industry leaders discussed the following:

  • Innovative approaches to identity authentication
  • Improvements to processes that establish identities
  • Opportunities to modernize legacy identity systems
  • Equitably delivering identity-based services
  • Frontline digital identity threats and trends
  • And other key issues of concern to government leaders

In Part 1 of our Fraudian Slip podcast series that looks back at the Summit, we share a presentation from Linda Miller, former Deputy Director of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee and now Founder & CEO of The Audient Group, about frontline digital identity threats and trends.

Thanks to Woody Talcove and LexisNexis Risk Solutions for their support in bringing focus to the impacts of identity fraud on victims. If you think you have been the victim of an identity crime or want to avoid becoming a victim, you can speak with an ITRC expert advisor toll-free on the phone (888.400.5530), chat live on the web or send us an email during our normal business hours (6 a.m.-5 p.m. PST Monday-Friday). Join us next week for our sister podcast, the Weekly Breach Breakdown. We will be back next month with another episode of The Fraudian Slip.
