- The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) recently released its annual Consumer Impact Report, supported by Experian. For the report, the ITRC surveyed victims who contacted the ITRC and victims who did not.
- According to the responses, 16 percent of ITRC victims surveyed reported thoughts of suicide, up from ten (10) percent in 2022 and eight percent in 2021.
- Also, 26 percent of ITRC victims claim losses of more than $100,000. For the first time, the ITRC consistently sees six-figure losses in romance and social media scams, often involving cryptocurrency or other investment schemes.
- ITRC President and CEO Eva Velasquez sat down and discussed the findings from the 2023 Consumer Impact Report by ITRC.

Normally, we would introduce a topic, a guest expert and our CEO, Eva Velasquez. However, this month, we are doing something a little bit different. This week, we published our 2023 Consumer Impact Report by ITRC, supported by Experian. It is based on information gathered from victims of identity crimes and how those events have affected them both financially and, more importantly, non-financially.
Eva presented the findings from this year’s study in a webinar, which, through the miracles of technology, we have in a link below as this week’s podcast.
